Bienvenidos!
On Behalf of the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Illinois, it is my privilege and honor to welcome you to our organization.
The Puerto Rican Bar Association of Illinois (PRBA) is a not-for-profit entity that was established in 1994. The PRBA was formed by Puerto Rican Attorneys who felt that there were issues unique to the Puerto Rican community that could be addressed by it members through efforts within the Puerto Rican and latino community.
The PRBA is committed to promoting education and community service in both the Latino and legal communities. As a result, we have implemented many programs and committees designed to further our commitment to the latino community and our colleagues. The PRBA has enacted programs where lawyers enter the classroom and hold mock trials as well as a Lawyer in the Classroom. Latino law students are supported through the PRBA Foundation Scholarship program, as we seek to support current latino law students and increase the latino bar in Illinois in the future.
The PRBA also has also been continuously involved in the Alliance of bar associations in the screening and rating of judicial candidates, who are either attempting to become a Judge for the first time or who are running to retain their position. The PRBA also supports efforts to place more latinos on the bench so that the judiciary more accurately reflects the community it serves.
The PRBA invites all attorneys and law students who wish to support the Puerto Rican and latino community in Chicago to become members. We are glad to announce that several PRBA members have recently been elected to serve on the PRBA’s Board of Directors for the first time: Claudia Farfan Badillo, David Badillo, Kevin Gallardo, Viviana Martinez and Suheily Natal. Congratulations!
Beginning in the fall of 2010 through May of 2011, the Puerto Rican Bar will have monthly meetings held the second Wednesday of each month, beginning on September 15, 2010. We look forward to welcoming back our current members on that date and welcome new members as well.
Otra Vez, Bienvenidos a Todos!
Charles P. Romaker
President of the PRBA
